Science
At Northfield Primary School, Science is a highly valued specialist subject. We employ a specialist Science teacher who allows opportunities for students to develop an understanding of important science concepts and processes in a hands on and active learning environment. Students are encouraged to develop their scientific knowledge, understandings and skills to make informed decisions about local, national and global issues and to explore science-related careers.
Our annual Science Expo is a highlight with year 5/6 students having the opportunity to research a scientific concept of their choice and present this information and relevant experiments to younger students, families and community members. Families are also able to enter the “Family Science Competition” where families are encouraged to work together on a Science project of their choice. These projects can be entered into a competition and are showcased and celebrated throughout Science Week. It is a great opportunity to acknowledge successes, and celebrate learning.
STEM is also a major focus in our Science lessons. After participating in the Beacon Lumination Project which focussed on the use of immersive technologies in the classroom, we have integrated Kai’s Clan Robots and Beebots to enhance student engagement and foster an inclusive learning environment. Developing STEM competencies enables students to develop, model, analyse and improve solutions to real-world problems.
In Science, students experience the joy of scientific discovery and explore their natural curiosity about the world around them.
