Maths

The F-10 Australian Curriculum: Mathematics provides students with essential mathematical skills and knowledge in Number and Algebra, Measurement and Geometry, and Statistics and Probability. It develops the numeracy capabilities that all students need in their personal, work and civic life, and provides the fundamentals on which mathematical specialties and professional applications of mathematics are built. 

At Northfield, students engage in Mathematics experiences that are aligned with the Australian Curriculum but that also endeavour to engage students and develop a deep understanding of the importance of Mathematics in everyday life and the world around us.

As well as developing fluency and understanding of mathematical concepts, students are provided with learning opportunities that challenge their thinking and focus on developing skills in problem-solving and reasoning.

Teachers at Northfield are supported in their work in Maths through regular planning sessions with school based Curriculum leaders and through our ongoing partnership with Maths Consultant, Mike Chartres.
